Hazeldean Community Business Brochure

This brochure will help newcomers to the community get acquainted with what businesses surround Hazeldean and for members of the community to reference the local businesses quickly.  The brochure is in PDF format.  If you do not have Adobe, please download a free copy prior to opening the attachment.

The 2nd Edition of Hazeldean's Business Booklet will feature our community's home-based businesses. If you would like to take advantage of this free marketing opportunity, please email the league at hazeldea@telus.net the information you would like submitted as soon as possible. The board of directors are happy to help out in this way.

 

Activities in the Hall


Raks Amar Belly Dance Classes with Farahnaz

A fun way to exercise and learn the movements of this ancient dance form!  There are three sessions throughout the year:

1.  September to November

2.  January to March

3.  April to June

Each session is approximately 11 to 12 weeks long and are held on Thursdays from 5:45 - 8:15 pm at the Hazeldean Community Hall.  For more information and/or register, please contact Farahnaz at 780-919-9948 or via email at ferah_naz@hotmail.com

Okinawan Style Karate with Sensei Mona Quinton

Home to Meibukan Goju Karate Edmonton, Sensei Mona Quinton provides instruction to children from 5 years old to adult on this Okinawan style martial art.  The benefits to participants are include increased respect for self and others, improved ability to focus, camaraderie, physical fitness, improved self-esteem and confidence.  For children, this provides a healthy environment to run, play, share and laugh while expending some of that excess energy they all seem to possess into learning a new art form.

Sensei Quinton holds a 2nd degree black belt and have received training under the Canada Goju Karate Association.  This Okinawan style karate shares the traditional teachings of Master Chojun Miyagi's Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate-Do, and is practiced in over 30 centers across Canada.  Currently, there are nine classes that run from September through June on the following evening times:

1.  Monday:  5:30 - 9:30 pm

2.  Wednesday:  6:00 - 10:00 pm

There are four age groups which Sensei Quinton teaches:

  • Little Dragons:  ages 5 - 7
  • Pee Wees:  ages 8 - 10
  • Juniors:  ages 11 - 15
  • Adults:  ages 16+

Playgroup

  • Thursdays, 10 - Noon - New program started September 20, in the main hall.
  • Free drop-in to community league members. Babies, children, and their caregivers all welcome!
  • Bring snacks and drinks for you and your kids.
  • It's a great opportunity for parents, caregivers, and your children to socialize and get out of the house.
  • Seeking donations of gently-used washable toys: collapsible tents and tunnels, doll strollers, miniature shopping carts, riding toys.
  • Closed December 27, 2007 and January 3, 2008 for the holiday.

Family Winter Celebration & Get to Know Your Neighbourhood

  • Saturday, February 23, 2008 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm
  • Located in the Skate Shack
  • Activities include horse-drawn hayride, skating, broomball, tug-a-war, relay games, curling, fire pit, hot dogs, hot drinks, cookies, treats, prizes & more!

Outdoor Soccer Registration

  • Friday, February 22, 2008 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm
  • Saturday, February 23, 2008 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm
  • Located in the North Meeting Room (entrance on North side)
  • You can also register online

Soccer Wrap-Up Banquet

  • Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm
  • Located in the Main Hall

Soccer - Team Pictures

  • Occurs on the first Tuesday in May (May 6, 2008) at a time to be determined (usually in the evening)
  • Located at the North Meeting Room
  • If weather permits, the team pictures will be taken outside (location to be determined)

Hazeldean Casino

  • Will occur in the first quarter (January - March) of 2010.  It is a two day event and the dates will be determined
  • Thirty shifts in total to be filled for the duration of the two days - please show us your support by working one shift.  Contact us today to sign up!

 

Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL)

The EFCL offers various sports programs to residents.  Some programs include:

  • Badminton, baseball, basketball, bowling, curling, ringette, skating, softball, swimming and tennis

Other general interest programs include:

  • Brownies, craft workshops, Cubs, dance, fitness, gymnastics, bike safety, pre-school activities, talent show, teens (youth), whist/bridge
